Craft 5, Matrix Entries, & Custom Sources

Craft 5 introduces entry-based Matrix fields, but being able to see the entries created this way is surprisingly tricky. Thankfully, it can be done!

A global documentation platform

Andy brings up a very valid and very scary point: what happens when Mozilla shuts down MDN? Why is one of the most important sources of web knowledge not under community stewardship? And what can we […]

Clever gradient masking in Lightroom

Some clever Lightroom techniques I've not seen before. Particularly like the use of gradient masks to accentuate existing light sources, and the "sandwich" technique is also very clever. Both work […]

South African snakes

A surprisingly detailed identification guide to the snakes of South (and Southern) Africa, including diagnostics, multiple photos, species ranges, and (usefully) relative danger to […]

A11y style guide

A great resource for finding accessible patterns for common UI requirements, as well as including stacks of accessibility best practices […]

Bird sightings in the UK

The Bird Guides forum was an invaluable resource whilst we were failing to see the bearded vulture that made the UK it's home last summer, and I've continued to check in from time-to-time since. In […]

British mammal identification guide

A brilliant resource from the Mammal Society of Britain: a comprehensive list of all mammal species that occur in or around the British Isles, including identification diagnostics, known ranges, […]

An excellent website for identifying species of butterfly and moth found in the UK, with great photos of all species […]

Live UK bird sightings map

Amongst some general research into the British lammergeier, I stumbled onto this excellent resource. The entire forum and community are packed with great birding insights, but this rare-bird live […]

Illustrated modular people

What a cool idea 😎 A set of line illustrations (SVG etc. goodness) that you can mix'n'match to create avatars, all fully modular. Currently it's an open-source graphics resource, but I could […]

Brilliant resource for the identification of dragonflies, damselflies, and demoiselle species found in the UK with excellent reference […]

Super Tiny Icons

A collection of hyper-optimised SVG logos for social media, popular websites, and tech companies. Every logo, whether in PNG or SVG form, is less than 1kb in size and have a base scale of […]

New Zealand bird identification

A frankly excellent website for identifying bird species, particularly useful if you're like me and trying to do so years after having seen them 😁 It's a really neat interface that makes narrowing […]

Web almanac 2019

The team behind the HTTP Archive do a fantastic job of analysing the web and 2019 is no exception. From JavaScript to accessibility, if you want to see how well we're doing as a community at standing […]

The front-end developer handbook 2019

It's not so much a resource as a resource of resources; a meta resource. Providing high-level overviews of complex topics and then linking out to more detailed deep dives or explanations (not all […]

IndieWebCamp London 2020

I finally made it to an IndieWebCamp meetup, even if it was remote only due to the increasingly restrictive implications of the coronavirus. I learnt a lot, I had a great time, and I'm ready to start implementing a whole bunch of new ideas right here. I also took a huge number of notes from the speakers and sessions throughout the day.
